Terri & Sandy continues to elevate its creative capabilities and leadership under partner and CCO Amy Ferguson, hiring Charles Watlington as its first-ever design director and Phil Fattore as group creative director.

The hires mark the latest wave of top industry talent joining the independent shop, which recently welcomed The Martin Agency alum John Gibson as its first head of strategy, former Grey executive Dylan Prill as its first head of growth, and Tina Lam as its first head of production following her role at TBWA/Chiat/Day.

Amy, who took the creative reins at Terri & Sandy last September, tapped Charles to elevate the agency's design craft across every client and discipline, while Phil will help drive breakthrough creative work and mentor the agency's next generation of talent.

"We're building something incredibly special at Terri & Sandy, and that starts with the people we surround ourselves with. Charles brings a level of craft that will help enable us to put design into everything we do. Phil brings passion and an instinct for big ideas that connect with people and move business. But what makes them such great additions isn't just the work they've made—it's the way they make it,” said Amy.

Charles joins Terri & Sandy off his most recent role as design director at TBWA/Chiat/Day, and brings with him over two decades of experience building identities, campaigns, and design systems for major national and global brands including Coca-Cola, Uber, the New York Knicks, American Express, Hershey’s, and Volkswagen. He has held senior design roles across the industry's most respected shops. Prior to TBWA/Chiat/Day he held senior design roles at Johannes Leonardo, The Martin Agency, and Ogilvy’s B.I.G., among others.

Along the way Charles’ influence led to top honours from the likes of D&AD and Cannes Lions. Charles also spent significant time on the brand side, leading design internally for the likes of MoMA, Kate Spade, and Jazz at Lincoln Center.

Phil’s creative career spans over a decade’s worth of award winning work spanning brands like Uber Eats, Hanes, Planet Fitness, Nissan, Fox Sports, 2K Games. He got his start in the industry as a Writer at BarrettSF before moving to New York to take on an associate creative director role at TBWA/Chiat/Day, where his path first crossed Amy’s. The two came together again during Phil’s most recent role as group creative director at Special U.S.

Named a “Creative 100: Rising Star” early in his career, Phil’s work has been honoured by the likes of Cannes, Clios, AICP, D&AD and The One Show.

“Both Phil and Charles lead with generosity, collaborate without ego, and inspire the people around them to do their best work,” continued Amy. “That's the kind of culture we're building here, and I couldn't be more excited to have them helping shape it."
